How to Measure Obesity?
The most common way of calculating obesity is the Body Mass Index (BMI), which is determined by dividing a person’s in kg by his or her height in square metres (kg/m2).
The Body Mass Index (BMI) is a calculation that takes into account the weight and height of a person to measure body size.
Since BMI represents body weight compared to height, there is a good correlation with overall body fat content in adults. An adult with a BMI of 25-29.9 is overweight, and an adult with a BMI of more than 30 is obese. An individual with a BMI of 18.5-24.9 is of normal weight. An individual is morbidly obese (extreme obesity) if his or her BMI is more than 35.
